Effective Practice Strategies
How you spend your time at the driving range will truly determine the outcome on the course. To maximize your practice sessions, consider breaking your range time into three distinct blocks. Let’s dive into these transformative practice strategies designed to unlock your full potential on the course.
Block Practice (10-20% of Practice Time): Lay a strong foundation by dedicating time to refining your fundamentals. This is a pure learning environment and confirmation must be present either by using video or drills. Your primary focus should be on mastering the technique, hitting the ball isn’t always essential in this stage.
Random Practice (60-70% of Practice Time): Embrace the unpredictable nature of the game as you dive into developing your skills. Here is important to practice the full process of hitting a golf shot: pre-shot routine & post-shot routine. Most of the focus will be on the target and how you want the golf shot to look, work on hitting different ball fights, different directions, different swing speeds, also work on changing clubs after each shot.
Practice every part of the game and every situation you can imagine.
Game-Based Training (Win your way off the practice facility): Do not skip this part of the practice, here you will learn to transfer it to the course. Push your skills to the limit by playing games against yourself, an example of a game is:
“Three in a row”: Hit 3 draws, 3 fades, 3 low shots with a 9 iron and 3 high shots with a 7 iron. Adjust it to your skill level and make sure to complete the challenge before you are done!
This segment of your practice should be the highlight of your sessions. Keep tabs on your game results and aim to play multiple times and track your progress.
